Forgiveness

It is a gift happily received
But so often bitterly given
Sometimes I weep from what I perceive
That Christ, in my life, has forgiven

But there are the times when I feel it is owed
Like I have the right to expect it
It’s at those times that I’m on the wide road
Cause that view of the cross is defective

You’ll never know how much he paid
Until you try to forgive those you hate
So forget the anger.  Let it fade
Cause the pain of spite is too great
